A Tradition of Leadership and Excellence
The Citadel has shaped principled leaders in South Carolina since 1842. Located in Charleston, we offer a military college education for young men and women that goes beyond the classroom — challenging students to lead, serve and succeed in every field. The approximately 2,400 members of the South Carolina Corps of Cadets (opens in a new tab) are not required to serve in the military, but about one-third of each class earn commissions to become officers in every branch of U.S. military service. All Citadel alumni leave prepared to lead wherever life takes them.
